In 11th grade, five of my friends and I were picked by our school to work with Cisco and build a project as a part of the Cisco Talent Outreach Program. We built Solan, a web app that promotes critical thinking by getting students to formulate the trickiest questions they possibly can on topics they learn at school.

Students contribute to the building of the question bank by posting questions of different difficulty levels from various chapters. They are awarded points for the same. The subject co-ordinator reviews these questions and has the option of making necessary changes, hence making sure that redundant questions are not added to the question bank.

Additionally, the subject co-ordinator selects ‘the question of the week’ and students who get it right are awarded a point. The student with the highest points will receive an appropriate reward from the school.

While doing this project we had complete exposure to a professional work environment. We were mentored by Cisco employees who we learnt a lot from.

We worked in sprints in line with the Agile methodology. We also pilot tested it in our school with the Computer Science class and it was a success.
